American & Efird (USA) is the world's second largest thread manufacturer.

Its manufacturing and dyeing facilities utilise a fully integrated online computer network. In-house laboratories are governed by internationally established standards for production and quality and scrutinise the entire manufacturing process for compliance. The company operates a satellite plant in Bangladesh and is the sole distributor for Lurex metallic thread in Sri Lanka and the region.

The company has increased productivity in order to meet the increasing demand for high quality threads by the apparel industry in both Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. Simultaneously, the facility has achieved sustainable productivity successfully, re-using about 65% of its daily water consumption after purification. Its clean operation has been recognised by the prestigious Excellence in Social Responsibility Award for 2006, in the 'Preservation of the Environment' category from the American Apparel and Footwear Association.
