Ocean India

Ocean India Private Ltd (OIL) is a joint venture between Brandix Lanka Ltd and Ocean Lanka Ltd, one of the largest manufacturers of knit fabric in Sri Lanka and a subsidiary of Fountain Set, the largest circular knitted fabric manufacturer in the world. Ocean Lanka, as a joint venture partner will provide the technical expertise to establish OIL operationally and commercial production is expected to commence in the first quarter of 2009. The target customer/market segment will be the apparel manufacturing base within the Brandix India Apparel City (BIAC) in India and other apparel manufacturing bases in India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

The company will be located in BIAC on a 75 acre plot of land. Initially, it will have a production capacity of 20,000 lbs/day. However, infrastructure is in place to increase this to 100,000 lbs/day to accommodate increasing market demand in the future. The plant itself is under construction with 50% of the work completed to date. It will be spread over 400,000 sq.ft. and employ a total labour force of approximately 300 at a production capacity of 60,000 lbs/day. Knitting test operations are due to commence by December 2008.
